Jennifer Penney was a gloriously sensuous and gifted dancer who danced MacMillan’s roles at the Royal Ballet during the 1970s and 80s. She is the ideal subject for my drawing and in coming months she is top of my list of dancers to draw. See her exquisite sensuality in Manon in the video extract below. Unfortunately modern dancers, perhaps not directly schooled by Kenneth MacMillan, do not come close to Penney’s interpretation in this role.
